Brief biography brother of Bishop Asenjo


Bishop Juan Jose Asenjo Pelegrina born in Sigüenza (Guadalajara) on 15 October 1945, made his ecclesiastical studies at the Diocesan Seminary of Sigüenza and was ordained priest on 21 September 1969. In 1971 he obtained licentiate in theology at the Theological Faculty of Northern Spain (Burgos).

From 1977 to 1979 he as PhD courses in theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University and Diploma in Archives and Library in the School of the Vatican Secret Archives and Vatican Library.

The positions held in the Diocese of Sigüenza-Guadalajara were: Professor of Ecclesiology and Church History at the Diocesan Seminary of Sigüenza from 1971 to 1997 and Vice President of the Seminary from 1974 to 1977. From 1979 until 1988 he was Director of the Private University Teachers' OL Ms. Star 'of Sigüenza. It was also a member of the Priests' Council and the Association of Consultants for twelve years, Director of Diocesan Historical Archive (1979-1981), Canon in charge of Artistic Heritage (1985-1997), Diocesan Delegate for Cultural Heritage (1985-1993) and Vice Rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Health Barbatona (1994-1997).

The positions held by the Bishop of Cordoba in the English Episcopal Conference were as follows: Deputy Secretary for General Affairs (1993-1997), Member of the Episcopal Commission for Cultural Heritage (1997-1998), Secretary General of the Conference English Bishops (1998-2003), Co-Chair Joint Commission Ministry of Education and Culture Episcopal Conference to monitor the National Plan of Cathedrals (1998-2003) and National Coordinator of the V Holy Father's Apostolic Visit to Spain (days 3 and May 4, 2003).

was appointed Titular Bishop of Toledo and assistant Iziriana the February 27, 1997, was ordained in the Cathedral on 20 April. He was appointed Bishop of Cordoba on July 28, 2003, making possession on 27 September.

By delegation of the Bishops of the South is the Bishop responsible for Pastoral Care in Spain.

On 9 March 2005 he was elected President of the Episcopal Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the English Episcopal Conference. Since that time a member of the Standing Committee thereof. On March 5, 2008 has been reelected for another three years.
